Contribution - Additive Manufacturing for Construction
Abstract
Additive manufacturing of concrete (AMoC) is a technology that has seen much more widespread development and exposure within the recent past, and has established a foothold in the construction landscape. The construction sector has long lagged behind other economic sectors in productivity, and a higher degree of automation has long been sought, with AMoC as one example of it. While AMoC has been pushed as one possible solution to the productivity problem, it also has many other potential benefits, such as in sustainability, thanks to its possibilities in using less material overall, although these benefits should be proactively pursued. While numerous challenges remain, in particular that of exactly how to integrate reinforcement in true structural systems, interest has yet to wane thanks to the societal pressures that make the case for AMoC to be economically viable.
