Abstract
3D-printed (3DP) buildings possess a range of environmental benefits and drawbacks whose fluctuations are contingent upon diverse factors. The implementation of 3DP in the construction industry offers the potential to mitigate construction waste, however, it also entails an increase in the emissions associated with cement production. The cement percentage in the 3DP construction materials is higher than in traditional construction. A potential material is construction and demolition waste. The objective of this study is to introduce an approach that offers a systematic framework for evaluating the environmental repercussions associated with 3DP buildings by leveraging data on construction waste. The methodology involves interviews and Building Information Modeling (BIM) in conjunction with Life Cycle Assessment (LCA). The gathered data will be harmonized with recognized Green Building Certifications (GBC), including Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). In conclusion, it can be inferred that the utilization of this framework facilitates the endeavors of decision-makers and stakeholders in the construction sector to establish sustainable buildings and contribute towards the attainment of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11, specifically targeting the development of sustainable cities and communities.
