Contribution - Automation in Construction Toward Resilience
Abstract
While significant efforts have been devoted to studies on developing printable construction materials and quantifying their properties, limited research has been carried out on the digital designs and robotic systems of 3D concrete printing. The advancement in computer-aided design (CAD) programs enables designers to create complex geometries without branching constraints related to material properties. Accurate control of the printing process can be done by integrating real-time measure systems into the printer, which further improves the printing quality. Moreover, the novel robotic systems based on multi-robot and drones have shown great potential for fully automating the construction process. This chapter will provide a review on the current state-of-the-art development of the design framework and robotic system for 3D concrete printing.
