Abstract
Additive manufacturing has emerged as a transformative force in the construction industry, offering advantages such as mold-free design, enhanced design freedom, automation, and digital management. However, traditional construction methods remain constrained in exploiting material properties and meeting functional demands. This paper comprehensively reviews four key strategies for optimizing 3D concrete printing structures: topology optimization heterogeneous structures, functionally graded heterogeneous structures, unsupported cantilever structures, and biomimetic structures along with their logical relationships. Additionally, this review explores its potential in enhancing architectural design freedom, optimizing material utilization, and meeting functional requirements, providing researchers with insights and references for optimizing 3D concrete printing structures. Furthermore, it highlights anisotropy, interlayer weak interfaces, and practical engineering application as major challenges faced during the optimization of 3D printing structures, and illustrates how specific challenges can be addressed through structural optimization.
